Spinal Rehabilitation Programme
IDD Therapy is the non-surgical spinal decompression treatment used as part of a programme of care. The purpose is to provide improvement of function and relieve pain, with a goal of long term pain relief.

Any unused treatments can be carried forward or should you stop treatment for any reason, we will refund the number of remaining IDD Therapy and / or Manual Therapy treatments.
You can find more information on how our treatment plans work below.
What is IDD Therapy?
IDD Therapy provides advanced targeted treatment which decompresses targeted spinal segments, easing pressure on nerves and improving mobility to address the causes of a herniated or bulging disc.
We have an IDD Therapy machine (Accu SPINA) which patients lie on as part of the treatment. It is computer controlled and perfectly comfortable.
By decompressing (taking pressure off) an injured or bulging/herniated disc and gently stretching the soft tissues, we can improve mobility in the spine and allow the body’s natural healing mechanisms to operate more efficiently.
We have excellent success rates of reduced pain and improved function which we track. We expect to see a 20-40% improvement by session twelve. Some patients can experience rapid improvements, others may take more time, especially with degenerative conditions.
- Current treatment is not working
- Want to stop taking painkillers
- Seeking long-term pain relief
- Want to return to normal daily activities
Our goal is to create an environment for your body to heal itself and for you to be well.
Pain that has built up over time requires a longer process of recovery. Tissues need time to adapt and change. We work with you using a combination of IDD Therapy, hands-on treatment and gentle exercise to reduce stiffness and tightness in your joints and tissues which prevent proper movement.

How our In-Clinic Programme works
Patients adapt to treatment in different ways. Factors such as nature and severity of the condition, duration of pain, age and general health will all affect how quickly someone responds and to what degree of improvement we can achieve together.
We start gently with the IDD Therapy to gently work tissues. Some manual therapy is used to address areas of the body which are causing pain and restricted movement.
Some very gentle exercise guidance is given. The adaptation phase is approximately ten sessions.
As the body adapts to treatment, we may increase the intensity of the IDD Therapy to condition the tissues to preserve the gains. Combined with more advanced manual therapy, soft tissue work and more active exercise, treatment progresses with a goal to create a platform and environment for continuous Improvement.
This is approximately ten sessions, unless a patient has multiple issues in which case this phase may be longer.
This is the activity you do when you finish treatment, to stay well and pain free.
This is when you finish your treatment course.
We provide you with a tailored exercise programme and daily living instructions so that you may continue to make progress.
We have a one month follow up appointment and offer an after-care support package for patients who want or need maintenance treatment as they continue their recovery process.
Paying for treatment
Patients pay for the two stages or in single stages. The nature of the conditions we treat with IDD Therapy means that patients require more treatments than a standard course of manual therapy for a minor problem.
We stress to all patients that treatment can take time to bring about change and we do not recommend anyone to expect lasting changes in less than ten IDD Therapy treatments.
Some patients may need more treatment than the two stages detailed. We track and monitor progress and discuss with you whether further treatment may achieve additional improvement.
Any unused treatments can be carried forward or should you stop treatment for any reason, we will refund the number of remaining IDD Therapy and / or Manual Therapy treatments.

Is IDD Therapy for you?
IDD Therapy is a gentle but dynamic treatment which is safe, non-invasive and suitable for people over the age of 18. Typical candidates are people who have back, neck pain or leg pain and may have tried various other treatments without success.
They may be taking pain medication, might have had an MRI scan and may be considering invasive treatments such as injections or in extreme cases, surgery. Are you someone who has experienced any of the following?
- Herniated Discs
- Bulging Discs
- Sciatica
- Nerve Pain
- Degenerative Disc Disease
- Facet Joint Syndrome
- Chronic Back Pain
- Chronic Neck Pain
- And Much More…
Unfortunately, IDD isn’t for everyone. Some inflammatory conditions (Modic changes type 1 and/or type 2) can be treated but are usually more difficult to treat and treatment outcomes can be unpredictable and the duration of treatment can be much longer than expected.
If you are unsure if IDD treatment is suitable for you then please book the free 15 minute telephone consultation and I will answer any questions that you have. Usually if you have one of the following conditions, then IDD is not for you.
- Osteoporosis (T-score of -2.5 to -2.8 or greater)
- Unresolved compression fractures of the spine
- Spondylolisthesis (grade 2 or higher)
- Spondylolysis
- Some unstable post-surgical conditions
- Open growth plates (Minors, under 18 etc)
- Severe central canal stenosis
- Surgical hardware in the spine (fused vertebral segments)
- Rotary or severe scoliosis
- Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)
- Fused vertebral segments
- Infectious of neoplastic (cancer) conditions
- Have a pacemaker fitted
- Spinal instability due to genetic defects or structural abnormalities
- Pregnancy
- Severe annual tears
